A Statement from Mary Crane Center

Mary Crane Center stands with those fighting for justice. The murder of George Floyd is the latest of too many unnecessary tragic losses suffered by black and brown communities. We stand alongside those working to undo the legacy of systemic racism and brutality, in the hope of crafting a better world for the children and families we serve.

Our children are watching us.  Our youngest Chicago citizens are learning every moment, and they will see how we believe black lives matter. They will learn that we are committed to promoting equity and peace. They will grow to use the power of their voices in the exercise of their First Amendment right to peaceful protest, like so many across the country. They will understand that we condemn the use of violence in all its forms, and are dedicated to grieving, listening, and healing the pain that has spurred damage to our beloved home city.

At this time, Mary Crane Center’s diverse staff is working to ensure the safety of all of our children and families. We stand alongside our neighbors in supporting leaders from within the community, and continuing our efforts for racial, economic and educational equity.  In partnership with our families, local businesses, and supporters, we are determined that our children deserve the brightest possible future, and it is our mission to build it for them.
